Ok, folks, it was very, VERY hard, but in the end I GOT IT! I know how Sherlock survived the fall!

Brace yourself, because this is a mind-blowing, SCIENTIFIC explanation.

We have to start by considering two indisputable laws of physics:

1) Murphy’s Law / Finagle’s corollary:
‘If something can go wrong, it will’ therefore ‘If you throw a slice of buttered toast into the air it will always fall with the buttered side down.’

2) Cat’s conservation law:
‘A Cat will always land on its foots.’

SO, what would happen if we stick a slice of toast with butter to a cat’s back and we throw it to the air? The cat, by law, will land on its feet, but the toast (by law too) will land on the butter’s side. Against this problem of physics laws, the nature chooses the best way of taking a solution: the cat may just not fall.

The cat with the toast, once it’s free in the air, will float at its cat-toast equilibrium point, where butter repulsion forces and cat forces are in balance. This point can be adjusted by removing some butter from the toast, adding it, or cutting some hairs (or legs) from the cat. In theory, this will cause the cat to remain stationary, however, in reality, due to varied nature of gravity and the non-uniform profile of Earth, the cat will simply spin around its center of gravity at ever-increasing speed.

So, all Sherlock had to do was to make and wear a harness specifically designed (and he IS a genius: how long could it have taken him to develop such a simple device?) to keep a cat on his front and a buttered toast (with the butter on top, of course) on his back: et voilà!

Then, at about 1 m from the ground, he had only to unfasten the harness and gracefully fall on the pavement, placing himself in the most convenient position.

I greatly encourage all London sherlockians to watch the sky in search of the spinning cat: as it should be still attached to the buttered toast, it should be also still flying around…

THIS will be CONCLUSIVE proof.

Ok so to bide my time before the next series of Sherlock comes out (and to keep me marginally sane), I’ve been reading all of the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories, usually at work when I’m doing nothing else.

I was minding my own business until THIS happened:

Ok, the word WEDDING showed up. Pretty typical. Nothing to be super psyched about.

Wait…and now the word RAT is on the same page. Just a quick descriptor, again, nothing too exciting. But still, a neat coincidence…

…you’ve got to be kidding me. BOW. All three clue words for series 3 on one page? I quit. I’m done. I can’t do this anymore.

If this is true, then basically, the three words mean nothing except for this story.

This theory is probably one of the most thought through I’ve seen in ages.Brilliant read and utterly convincing.

Has anyone thought of tea as a clue? In the opening scenes of Bank of England/Pentonville Prision/Tower of London, tea is spilt. They have given clues in early scenes before. Plus we have tea served to Moriarty. I cant find any other ideas on this one, so wondering if you had any? Also the lone cab ride that Sherlock takes, is that the unusual thing he does that Moffat references? He is always in a cab with John. Others had these ideas?

Not that I’ve noticed, anon!

I have a feeling a while ago that I read a short stub about the tea: it being a staple of British existence, by its being spilt within multiple important institutions, it signified the crumbling of the Government’s (Mycroft’s?) control. Perhaps the link to Moriarty there is that he now holds the keys to the Kingdom.

I might be way off base though. If anyone else has thoughts, please let me know in the ask box!

Bow like violin bow? That’s a bit vague though as Holmes plays is violin in MANY stories.

Replace character of Van Bork (Last Bow) with Moran and/or remnant of Moriarty’s empire to combine Empty House and Last Bow. (Contact snaitf if you’d like her to expound on this.)

First episode follows Sherlock, second follows John, and third is Empty House where they come back together. (GAH OMG PLEASE NO)

Gatiss said so back in May. (Besides, this is the only logical time to do that story if they’re ever going to.)

So speculate all you like on RAT, WEDDING, and BOW. But if you don’t find a way to involve Empty House in your Series 3 fantasy league, you’re ignoring the one thing that’s actually been confirmed.

So glad that finalproblem addressed this, because it seemed to be forgotten in all the hype. Empty House Woooh!

I don’t think we have nearly enough information to predict that.

We’ve been led to believe Jim’s network was extensive, but we have no idea what happened to it when he died. Did the web fall apart on its own once the spider was gone? Or did someone else (the usual guess here being Moran) take over and keep things going? The writers could easily have it go either way depending on the story they want to tell.

If the network still exists and they decide to have Sherlock take it down, the sheer size of the task could be offset by not making Sherlock be the one to physically shut it down. In the original stories, Holmes dealt with most of Moriarty’s network before his “death,” and he did it primarily by collecting evidence and giving that to the police.

From The Final Problem:

Tell Inspector Patterson that the papers which he needs to convict the gang are in pigeonhole M., done up in a blue envelope and inscribed “Moriarty.”

As to the gang, it will be within the memory of the public how completely the evidence which Holmes had accumulated exposed their organization, and how heavily the hand of the dead man weighed upon them.

Our Sherlock could do the same—focus on collecting evidence and putting it into the right hands.

If, on the other hand, the network has already fallen apart without its leader then I expect Sherlock would mostly focus on those three specific threats identified in Reichenbach. The fact that there are three of them would lend itself to some rather convenient story pacing—but that only matters in the event that’s the story the writers decide to tell.

(I should also probably note that I have my doubts about whether they’ll have Sherlock’s absence last a full three years in this version.)

It looks like the cap of a Canal. (Sewage system? Waste elimination system? Tubes to get rid of dirty water and stuff. It has to be accessible, so you can clean it up and repair it in case something goes wrong.)

However, that doesn’t mean that the mighty Mofftiss won’t use it to their full advantage. Who really knows what they’re capable of…

Some thoughts: On Assassins and Sebastian Moran

Two of the male assassins were shot and killed in this episode, the big bald guy who was in with Mrs. Hudson, and there was a random third male assassin who we all agree had integrated himself into Lestrade’s police force.

And there was that female assassin was no where to be found, for some odd reason. There is a possibility that she was busy protecting Molly. Has anyone considered that? The only reason why it wasn’t shown was because Sherlock didn’t say her name while talking to Moriarty since he knew that he still needed her in order to complete his plan.

THEN, there is the fourth male assassin who had his gun trained on John. Could it be that the two who were with Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade were placed there by Sherlock in order to protect them? But why then would John’s protector have the gun trained on his head? He should have been sweeping the area, looking for potential shooters.

So, there is a guy who is ready to shoot John at a moment’s notice, and it is agreed upon that Moriarty said that there were three shooters only because Sherlock said three names. Moriarty didn’t think to include Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade, because he didn’t think that they were important. But, when it came to John, he knew that the man was Sherlock’s ‘heart’. He also knew that in order to “burn” Sherlock, all he would have to do is take out his heart. His John.

In rapid conclusion:

Sherlock’s heart = Clearly John

Therefore to burn Sherlock = Kill John

Friends of Sherlock’s (according to Moriarty)= John (Remember, in Sherlock’s opinion he only has ONE friend.)

In essence:

There was an assassin. There was one assassin. John was the only one who was ever in trouble.

And that Assassin was Sebastian Moran.

Additionally: the assassin (who we’re all guessing is Moran) looked a bit like Sherlock (tall, think, thick dark curls). He could have been the one who kidnapped the children, which would explain the scream.
